  1. Bear Island is a map for C&C Renegade version 1.6 update 6+ made by Blazea58 and Jerad2142 with some assets purchased from Turbosquid. The goal is simple: kill bears for money… although, there might be a twist about 15 minutes in. The map is open world with over 20 objectives (some of which are hidden or have to be done in a certain time period or will be missed). Bear Island features 6 unique vehicles, over 7 different types of animals, a combined GDI and Nod team as well as a built in record and score system. Crappy half-baked backstory: Bear Rug Co. is San Casina’s main supplier of bear rugs and they have become quite reliant on us. Recently there were a series of bear maulings that have thinned out the worker pool, you have been hired to replace these workers to help get production back underway. Unfortunately, your first day is going to be extra stressful; the president of corporate America has arrived at the plant for an inspection and is currently underwhelmed at our production. We need you to head out there and start killing those bears as quickly as possible. There is a cabin to the North which will make a good forward base, now head out and kill those bears! 3. If it wasn't for distance/money I'd go. Hope there is a really big turnout.
  4. This is horrible news, I was talking to him back in May about level edit stuff, life got busy and hadn't talked to him since. At the time he seemed fine and I thought he was getting back into Ren. Renegade has lost one of the more activate influential map creators, this is a horrible day for the community Makes me we we'd have talked more but I always felt like I'd have time later... makes one realize they should really reach out to the people they know more often. My condolences also go out to his friends and family.
  5. I posted here before but since then I had PRK (like LASIK) and grew my hair out so my appearance has changed drastically.

Well the vehicles detecting what terrain they are on is more of a hack that I made for Reborn (They wanted jonwil to make a method damage vehicles that drove on certain surface effects but he didn't think it could be done before 4.2's release date). So all this really does is check the wheel bones of the vehicles and if they are on the surface type that is being checked for it returns true. So I guess if you have a vehicle that can only deploy in certain spots this will work for base building, otherwise you need something a bit smarter.
  7. They have an undecorated tree up in our mall, so its getting there.
  8. Why not, I use my real life name on some of these forums, I'm sure people could dig pictures up of me without trying very hard lol.

Yeah, however I always worry about the chance that something will be changed that'll break some mod that worked in 4.1. For example, aircraft AI has been shot since 4.0 (it fly's all retarded, it can't strafe anymore which pisses me off to hell and back).

This community seems to be slightly more alive then the others, which is good to see. I often find my self regretting not getting into more forums when Renegade was more alive earlier on. &Wyld - Uhoh, letting your kids play Renegade? Seems risky, its a pretty addicting game. The server is running 4.2, part of its main reason of existing is so I can test and make sure 4.2 is more like stock Renegade than 4.1 was, also keeping an eye out for any backward compatibility issues, so far we've run into some issues with the new level editor that I don't know if they will be fixed for 4.1 (if you save a level with the 4.2 level editor, all vehicles seem to get detected as turret vehicle type to 4.1 players, which means they don't move and update correctly). Fixed a few bugs that bothered the heck out of me so far, vehicle break lights lighting wrong, players colliding on ladders (this one was bad), also added what surface a vehicles wheels are contacting, this should allow you guys to make scripts for player harvesters that start harvesting when they drive on tiberium without placing zones (hopefully it'll be useful).

Haha, if you have time to download a 373MB map I'd love to see you in game.
  12. My tests have shown it has more to do with the number of draw calls on the map, my first mutant assault map for ECW ran a constant 200 bots all of which were constantly in motion. I had to cut down to 100 bots for my newer maps however (more draw calls on the map made for much lower client framerates when the bots were added to the mix). Thousands of projectiles in the air at a time also has a very negative impact on the server (or at least the explosions do).

Just saying hey. I've been around Renegade for a long time, although the on-line community not as much. I'm the lead producer of the standalone game Expansive Civilian Warfare and the Bear Island map for Renegade. I'm also part of Tiberian Technologies currently helping them with scripts 4.2 for Renegade.
