renegade Recent Bad Performance; Apologies

For the last 7 or so days some(ones) have been attacking the XWIS server and the MPF game-server and IRC.

Them hitting XWIS has put alot of servers out of business of players a couple of times now.

It is not just MPF that is suffering from this attack, also Jelly and RenCorner for example.

We are hosting our server on GameSpy at the moment instead of Westwood Online (XWIS).

GameSpy seems to be fairly stable but a lot of players connect through XWIS so quite a bit of players are unable to play Renegade at the moment which results in lower player counts

It looks like these attacks are not likely to stop any time soon knowing they have been going on for over a week now.

Olaf (XWIS) can't do much about a DDoS of this severity and neither can we. We can all only wait and be very patient waiting for the attacks to subside so we can finally play Renegade normal again.

I hope they will stop their attacks soon

Please, i know it is annoying, just keep re-joining the server when it is attacked again.

If we stop playing: They win.

It's sad how some guy(s) think it's funny to DDoS the servers for such old games where there are only a hand full of people still playing as compared to some years ago. They gain nothing by it but it's probably just one guy who got butthurt over one of the communities or a member of one. Same old shit.

The worst part, it is probably a bot programmed to attack XWIS, nobody is DDOS attacking manual these days, humans have to sleep sometimes...

I use RenList and a lot of times, I have to refresh multiple times for the Ultra servers to show up under GSA.

Sometimes, they don't even appear, even though they are "favorite".

 

I'm sure everyone knows how to do this already.

I put a shortcut on my desktop to connect directly and use that when the server doesn't appear.

 

I have C&C The First Decade, so for NewMaps:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA Games\Command & Conquer The First Decade\Command & Conquer Renegade™\Renegade\Game.exe" +connect 69.162.64.90:1337 +netplayername newtown19

 

Just substitute newtown19 with your nick.

It sucks but this type of activity has been going on for years off an on, and it's not just in Renegade. Although Renegade seems to be much more suceptible with its aging code and reliance on a very non-robust xwis service.

 

We will outlast the little cowards that hide behind their keyboards thinkng they are so bad ass. Dont let this stuff discourage you, we will get through it, over it, around it etc. Typically the losers that do this crap are leading self descructive lives and eventually shit does catch up with them. What goes around comes around bitches!
